Necessity Truly Is The Mother Of Invention
I don't know about you, but for me, it was biodegradable, flushable diapers. Something about them just seemed right and, although I never would have been mistaken for an environmentalist in 500 years (the time it takes a "disposable" diaper to biodegrade), I decided to try them out.
The diapers worked great--my husband clogged the toilet a couple of times before getting the hang of it. The biggest change in our house, however, was not what my six-month-old was wearing under her onesie, it was in me. I realized that although I had always wanted the best for my daughters, I rarely actually took the time to see what was the best--what was safest for them now and what will provide the best environment for them in the future.
Pretty soon things started changing in my house. Plastic water bottles were replaced with stainless steel ones. Plastic plates featuring assorted Disney princesses were replaced with some made out of bamboo. Plastic toys made in China were replaced with wooden ones made in Europe.
Some things still bothered me however--one of the biggest was all those plastic zip-lock bags that we were still using. Going to church? Throw some Organic Joes O's in a zip-lock. Going to the zoo? Throw some grapes in a zip-lock. Going shopping? Throw some gold fish in a zip-lock. What a waste--so many plastic bags that I don't want touching my child's food anyway getting thrown away.
So that's how I ended up coming up with the Snack Sack. I wanted something easy to put snacks in that was plastic-free, could handle anything from animal crackers to apple slices, and would help end my dependence on the SC Johnson Corporation. And once I figured that out, I figured there might be a few moms or dads out there looking for the same.
On this site you'll find a couple of other things I do as well. There are some reusable cloth gift bags as well as some baby shower invitations and announcements sold though my other at-home business, Say Anything Invitations.
Thanks for stopping by. You can send me an email if you have any questions or just want to chat.
